Description: | In today’s fashion landscape, saturated with celebrity faces and oversized logos, Myntra wanted to promote its End of Reason Sale in a unique way. Thus, came an idea to go anti-celebrity and instead, resurrect an intrinsic part of Indian meme subculture: Adarsh Balak. As India’s favourite good boy became an advocate of good fashion, the campaign became a marker of a truly secure brand. Myntra, with its 17-year-old legacy, needed to show no real faces or products to market its disruptive deals. In fact, we built a deeper resonance with the customers while keeping the communication fresh. One way to do this right was to collaborate with the creator himself, Priyesh Trivedi. So we did, making this a pure exercise in design thinking. He let us spill all our visual concepts, and fine-tuned them to ensure they stayed true to the Balak universe. The first sample illustration he made — the Adidas sneakers billboard — got approved by the brand team in one go, strengthening everyone’s conviction in the idea. As advertising creatives we’re wired to think brand-first, but this time, we were able to do justice to the comms as well as the aesthetics of the pop culture sensation. |
