Description: On World Rhino Day, the Government of Assam decided to burn more than 2500 rhino horns in Kaziranga. The first ever time in Asia. But like most government events, such an overwhelming act had the most underwhelming audience. Making it the Unsung Funeral. Wildlife Conservation Trust wanted to make this event a high decibel event. And so, we turned to the most unnoticed part of the newspaper – the obituary columns.
Posts on social media, invited hundreds of condolence messages through comments. We turned these comments into visually unusual Rhino obituaries, and printed them amongst human obituaries, in the leading national newspapers. This way, it got noticed immediately. On scanning the code, readers were led to livestream the funeral. The world’s 1st crowdsourced obituaries reached 53,98,714 people online and 10,56,821 livestreams to the funeral.
