Dad (Father's Day) - Zee Classic
Client: Zee Entertainment
Entrant: Scarecrow M&C Saatchi
|Entry Title:||Dad (Father's Day)|
|Description:||Most Indian parents of the last generation, made adjustments throughout their lives so that their children can have a better life. Zee Classic pays a heart-warming tribute to the erstwhile generation with a nostalgic film.
Here, a son reminisces the adjustments and sacrifices his dad has made throughout his life. He later laments that he was so caught up with his own life that he didn’t get a chance to peek into his dad’s world. That’s when the brand gently reminds him that there is still time to celebrate with his dad - over the nostalgic and classic films of Zee Classic.
The soulful narration and equally evocative and emotional music were crafted to take the audience on a trip down the memory lanes and revisit the golden moments spent with their parents.
|English Translation:||Dad. Yaani adjustment ki jeeti jagti misaal.
Pichle pacchis saalon mein unhone kya kuchh badalte nahi dekha?
Telephone se Cordless. Cordless se Pager. Pager se Mobile.
Telephone to Cordless. Cordless to Pager. Pager to Mobile.
Uss zamane mein jab mein hostel mein tha, hamare ghar mein phone nahi hua karta tha.
Toh hafte mein ek baar baat karne ke liye, papa ne, hamare padosi Pittalwala ke saath, peediyon se chale aaye chhatis ke aakde ke equation ko hamesha ke liye badal diya.
Uske baad, jab mein hostel se phone karta tha, tab Pittalwala ka chhota sa dil, papa mummy ko bulane ke liye zaraa sa bhi nahi katrata tha.
(In those times, when I was in hostel, we didn’t have a telephone in our house.
So, just to be able to talk to me once a week, dad forever changed the equation of the generation-long animosity with our neighbour, Pittalwala.)
Naani bataa rahi thi ki jab maa petsi thi, tab ma se nahihal mein baat karne ke liye, uss zamane mein papa, STD booth ke saamne line lagaya karte the.
Ab wahi line, papa Apple Store ke saamne lagate. iPhone ke latest version kharidke, muhje birthday pe gift karne ke liye.
(My grandmother said that when my mom was pregnant, then to talk to her at her mom’s place, in those times, dad used to stand in queue in front of STD booth.
Now he stands in queue, but this time in front of the Apple Store. To buy the latest model of iPhone as a gift for my birthday.)
Kahaan woh din the, jab main, papa ke saath, colony ke corner waley kirana store pe mahine ka ration kharidne jaata tha, tab baniya apni meethi meethi baaton ke saath, papa ko extra chiniwali chai pilata tha aur mujhe Poppins ki meethi goli deta tha, bilkul muft.
Ab usi corner pe badaa sa mall ban gaya. Mujhe abhi bhi yaad hai, mall ke escalator par pehli baar chadne se pehle, papa ne poori Hanuman Chalisa pad li.
(Those were the days when I used to go with Papa to the Grocery Store at the colony’s corner to buy our monthly rations. That time, the grocer would talk sweetly with dad and also give me the sweet Poppins, absolutely free.)
Mujhe maa ne kitne saalon baad bataya ki mall ka self-service wala buffet papa ko bilkul jachta nahi tha. Par mere pasta prem ko dekh ke, unhone kabhi yeh express nahi kiya ki unhe restaurant mein properly baithke khaane ki ichha hai.
(Mom told me after so many years that dad didn’t ever like the self-service buffets at the mall. But submitting to my love for pasta, he never expressed that he wished to eat, properly seated at restaurants.)
Aadhi zindagi cake ke bina birthday celebrate karne ke baad, apni pachasvi saalgirah pe, family ke youngster ki farmaish ko poora karne ke liye, mom ke saath ball dance karne ki koshish karna, koi chhoti moti adjustment nahi hai.
(After spending half a lifetime of celebrating his birthdays without cakes, on his fiftieth birthday, he did heed to the demands of the youngsters and tried to do a ballroom dance with mom – that’s not a small adjustment by any means.)
Meri zidd ki wajah se, khud pe na jachte hue bhi, uss din Water Kingdom mein jab unhone swimming costume pehna, tab unke self-esteem ki woh kurbaani, kaabile taarif thi. Wave pool ki unn banavati maujo aur chhito ke bawajood bhi, maine unki bheegi aakhon mein bete ke liye kuch bhi kar mitne ki tayyari ka ehsaas pehli baar mehsoos kiya.
(Due to my stubbornness, even though it didn’t suit him, he wore a swimming costume at Water Kingdom and the way he sacrificed his self-esteem, was definitely praise worthy. In the wave pool, despite the artificial waves and splashes, I saw moistened eyes, and for the first time realised his willingness to do everything for his son.)
Mere saath flight mein pehli baar belt adjustment karne se lekar, meri mehangi Manchester wale MBA ki padhai ko financially support karne ke liye, apne retiremen ke saal ko adjust karne mein unhone koi kasar nahi chhodi.
(From adjusting his seat belt in his first flight with me, to adjusting his retirement year to financially support my expensive MBA studies at Manchester, he didn’t leave any stone unturned.)
Mujhe ab yaad aa raha hai ke main jab bhi college se ghar jaata tha, woh apne pasanida channel ko sacrifice kar dete the aur mere liye MTV lagate the.
Mujhe iss baat ka ranj hai, ki tab se lekar aaj tak, maine kabhi kosish nahi ki, unki duniya mein jhakne ki.
(I can still recall that whenever I used to return home from college, he would sacrifice his favourite channel and switch to MTV for me.)
VO: Bete, abhi bhi koi khaas der nahi hui. Abhi bhi waqt hai apne pita ki ke uss Eastman Colourwale zamane mein jhaankne ka. Zee Classic ke khidki ke zariye. Thaam le uss zamane ke sitaro ka haath. Thode thumke laga unke disco aur rock and roll pe. Jhoom le unke taraano par zaraa, deewano ki tarah. Aur kho ja, uss zamane ki deewangi mein. Zee Classic. Woh zamaana kare deewana.
(VO: Son, it is still not too late. There is still time to peek into your dad’s era of Eastman Colour. Through the window of Zee Classic. Hold the hands of the stars of that era. Do a dance step with their disco and rock and roll. Sway crazily to the beats of their music. And lose yourself in the craziness of that era. Zee Classic. The era that drives you crazy.
