Description: Chennai hates outsiders, the national media proudly proclaimed but for Hindu, we knew this was far from the truth. 45 days prior to Madras day, The Hindu launched a grassroot level Chennai-centric campaign, #MadeOfChennai. The Hindu kicked off a month-long celebration of the city, by posting a heartfelt open letter to Chennai. This long copy print ad garnered a lot of engagement on social media. Many Chennaiites, both of and from the city, shared their love for Chennai. The city soon became the talk of the town for all the right reasons.
Since division first broke out in a public space, we reclaimed every place starting from metro lines and heritage sites and beaches to famous streets. We specially curated events to bring people of all walks of life together. Be it an archival exhibition, food and music festival, movie nights or marathons, unity & togetherness was the central idea.
People from across Chennai resonated with the sentiment of the campaign, leading to a lot of user generated content. From Oscar winner to influencers, every creator in Chennai pitched in. Soon #MadeOf Chennai became more than just a campaign. It became a community. Even the honorable Chief Minister showed his support.
