Description: As a relatively new player in a cluttered category, Indeed suffered from a lack of awareness. To address this, we decided to deviate from the homogeneous “white-collar narratives” of the competition and focused on an overlooked segment witnessing a meteoric surge in demand for candidates: SMBs.
To the SMB audience, Indeed was undifferentiated in the category. To become the go-to platform for their recruitment needs, we dove into understanding their needs. We identified that most of their recruitment happens through casual personal recommendations, driven by a lack of time, resources, and the reluctance to deny support to their community.
These informal hiring practices were ineffective and posed real threats to business. And yet, there appeared to be low understanding about the potential repercussions of hiring through casual means.
In a bid to trigger change, we created ‘The Hire’. A campaign that used humor to drive home the perils of informal hiring practices, which presented Indeed as the ideal solution. With an integrated campaign, we called on recruiters to “hire better” by posting their job on Indeed, thus ensuring that they reached the right talent. We also built a microsite to support SMB recruiters in transitioning to hiring through formal channels.

English Translation: 1) FORKLIFT

The film opens in a warehouse, with walls of cardboard boxes stacked high on either side. We see a manager and his boss standing in an aisle of this warehouse, peering through some documents. In the background, we notice a forklift abruptly going berserk, spinning around in circles with a mildly distressed man inside, trying to control it.
In the foreground, the boss casually asks the manager, “Did you hire the new forklift operator from Indeed?”
Tutting confidently, the manager replies without looking up, “No ma’am. I hired my uncle’s son, he’s very smart.”
Just then, we see the out-of-control crash into a rack in the background, bringing down an entire wall of boxes.
Seemingly stunned into silence, the boss turns to the manager. “Next time, hire on Indeed,” she says.
The manager looks to her and replies, “Indeed, ma’am.”
The chaos ensues in the background, with the unqualified forklift operator backing into another pile of boxes, much to the dismay of the manager.

2) OIL SPILL

We see two technicians standing in what seems to be a production room, filled with pipes and operating boxes for the unit’s machinery. Oddly, they are waist-deep in a pool of oil, their hands perched on their heads to keep their upper halves clean.
In disbelief, the older technician - evidently the boss - asks the younger technician, “Did you hire the new maintenance head from Indeed?”
Haltingly, the younger manager replies, “No sir, I hired my neighbour’s brother-“
He’s cut off by a glare from his boss, who slowly turns back to survey the scene. In despair, he says, “Next time, hire on Indeed.”
The young manager nods in agreement when suddenly a pipe bursts overhead, dousing the boss in a jet of hot gas.

3) CALL CENTER

The film opens in a call center where things have gone awry, with computers across the room blowing out one by one, sparks and smoke billowing from each. A boss and a manager are witnessing this unfold in horror, through a glass wall in their office.
The boss asks, “Did you hire the new IT specialist from Indeed?”
Regretfully, the manager replies, “No sir, I actually brought in Ramesh’s son…” But he’s quickly silenced by his boss’ glare of disappointment.
The boss turns to him and instructs, “Next time, hire on Indeed.”
The manager sheepishly nods, “Indeed, sir.”
As they turn to leave, the monitor next to them shoots out a spark as well, startling the two.
